Most Common Drug Charges in North Carolina

What are some of the most common drug charges you see in your North Carolina practice? As a criminal defense lawyer in Raleigh, the most common drug charges I see are: simple possession of marijuana, cocaine, heroin; and various drug paraphernalia charges; and possession of pills and other controlled substances. In Wade County, the origin of most drug charges is a result of simple traffic stops. It’s very common for a police officer to pull someone over for speeding or some other minor criminal traffic infraction and then approach the stopped vehicle, smell the odor of marijuana and then search and find some contraband in the vehicle. Although charges resulting from traffic stops are a common fact pattern, there are many defense tactics in the law that I’ve used to help get these charges dismissed for my clients.
